Notes on knitting lace from charts:

• The chart represents what the right side surface of the lace will look like. If you are working a wrong side row, keep this in mind.
• Right side rows are worked from right to left across the chart.
• Wrong side rows are worked from left to right across the chart.
• Learn to read your knitting, notice that the decreases line up to form diagonal lines, the first 5 rows slant to the right, the last 5 rows slant to the left. Each decrease is accompanied by a matching yarn over, however, these remain in the same place. You can determine which row you worked last by figuring how many yarn overs have been worked in the current repeat and which direction the slant is leaning.
• Lace benefits greatly from blocking with a good dose of steam. Pin edges down if necessary. Leave the piece to dry flat if possible.

Loosely Cast On 50 sts.
Rows 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9: *K1, P1, repeat from * to end.
Rows 2, 4, 6, and 8: *P1, K1, repeat from * to end.
Row 10: (K1, P1) twice, K1, (place marker), Work across chart following row 1 from right to left 4 times, (place marker), (P1, K1) twice, P1.
Row 11: (P1, K1) twice, P1, (M), work across chart following row 2 from left to right 4 times, (M), (K1, P1) twice, K1.
Row 12: (K1, P1) twice, K1, (M), work across chart following row 3 from right to left 4 times, (M), (P1, K1) twice, P1.
Row 13: (P1, K1) twice, P1, (M), work across chart following row 4 from left to right 4 times, (M), (K1, P1) twice, K1.
Row 14: (K1, P1) twice, K1, (M), work across chart following row 5 from right to left 4 times, (M), (P1, K1) twice, P1.
Row 15: (P1, K1) twice, P1, (M), work across chart following row 6 from left to right 4 times, (M), (K1, P1) twice, K1.
Row 16: (K1, P1) twice, K1, (M), work across chart following row 7 from right to left 4 times, (M), (P1, K1) twice, P1.
Row 17: (P1, K1) twice, P1, (M), work across chart following row 8 from left to right 4 times, (M), (K1, P1) twice, K1.
Row 18: (K1, P1) twice, K1, (M) work across chart following row 9 from right to left 4 times, (M), (P1, K1) twice, P1.
Row 19: (P1, K1) twice, P1, (M) work across chart following row 10 from left to right 4 times, (M), (K1, P1) twice, K1.
Repeat rows 10-19 until scarf measures approximately 47 ½" from cast on, work last 10 rows same as rows 1-9 then work row 1 once more. Bind off loosely in pattern.
