How do I read the symbols on my yarn labels?

Notes on reading symbols on fabric and yarn labels:
All temperatures are given in Celcius! 30 degrees Celcius is 85 degrees Farenheit, 40 degrees Celcius is 105 degrees Farenheit, 50 degrees Celcius is 120 degrees Farenheit.
Note that the dot system is used over many different types of symbols, an Iron with one dot would be on low heat etc...
A handwash symbol could have dots as well to indicate temperature of water needed.
Lines under the symbol idicate how to treat the fabric, one line is permanent press, two means gentle cycle.
An X through any symbol always means DO NOT!
Try to read this label...

The above symbols on your label would be read as Machine wash, warm water. Use any bleach. Tumble Dry, medium heat. Do not iron.

If you are not sure which set of abbreviations your pattern uses, check the country of origin in the copyright information. If that doesn't work, look for an explaination of any stitch you already know (decreases are good for this) and see if it agrees with what you learned. If not, it is probably written in the other set of terms. It is very easy to compensate for the differences, once you know what they are! If you don't know which set you learned, here is how to make a SINGLE CROCHET in US terms:
SC = single crochet: insert hook into stitch indicated, yo, pull a loop back through the stitch (2 loops on hook), yo and draw through both loops.
