Tubular Cast-on
Program for the Handknitter's Guild of North Central Texas

Materials Needed:
Two colors of yarn in similar weights, waste yarn is best if it is cotton in
a contrasting color to main yarn.
Appropriate sized needles for the yarn you have choosen
Crochet hook same size as the knitting needles
First, you will need to work a crochet cast-on of half the required number of stitches + one stitch. For our example, we are going to chain 21 over the knitting needle.

2: * Reach over the top of the knitting needle and wrap yarn around hook

4: Twist the knitting needle to the left, around the yarn and lay it back on top of the yarn next to the crochet hook.

6: Tie a knot in the tail you just cut to indicate where to start unravelling later.

| 7: With your main color of yarn, Knit a row, purl a row and knit a row across all sts.
|
8: **Purl the first stitch and move the yarn to the back so it is ready to knit. Use the tip of the right needle to reach down to the crochet row, pick up the first white bump from the top.

| 9: Place this loop onto the left needle from front to back. Knit it through the front loop.

10: Bring the yarn forward and purl the next stitch. ![]() |
| 11: Repeat from ** until the last stitch is picked up and the last purl has been worked.

14: Pull on this end to unzip crochet cast on.

You can use this cast on with garter stitch or stockinette, however the first three rows will appear to have been ribbed.
