[Care Symbols] [US vs UK Terms][Tubular Cast-on][Whip Stitching Seams][Measuring Accurately]

How do I measure accurately?

First, you will need an unstretchable tape measure, something to write with and a good friend (to help measure).

Measure around your bust at the widest point. _______
This is your bust measurement. Do not pull tightly!

Measure around your waist at the widest point. _______
This is your waist measurement. Do not pull tightly!

Measure from the top of your shoulder to the top of your bra strap. _____
This is your armhole depth.

Measure from the top of your shoulder to your natural waist. _____ This is your jacket or crop top length.

Measure from the top of your shoulder to the widest point in your hips. _____
This is your standard waist length.

Measure from the top of your shoulders to the point on your hips where your fingertips hit with your arms all the way down. _____ This is your tunic length.

Measure from the edge of your shoulder to the bone in your wrist. _____ This is your sleeve length, including cuff.

Measure from edge of shoulder to edge of shoulder. _____
This is your overall shoulder width.

Measure from neck edge to neck edge. _____
This is your neck opening. Should be approximately one third of your overall shoulder measurement, side to side. In children, this measurement is one half of the shoulder measurement.

Measure from neck edge to shoulder edge. _____
This should be approximately one third of your overall shoulder measurement. In children, this measurement is one quarter of the overall shoulder measurement.

Measure from the top of the shoulder to where you would like the bottom edge of your neck opening to hit. _____
This is your neck depth. Don't forget, you will be adding a neck band.

Measure around your wrist at the point where you want the sleeve to hit. _____
This is your wrist measurement.

Ease is what you add or subract to your actual measurements to get your sweater to fit the way you want it to fit.

Ease Chart

Tight fitting: subtract 2" to 0" ease
Form fitting: add 0" to 2" ease
Classic fitting: add 2" to 4" ease
Comfortable fit: add 4" to 6" ease
Loose fit: add 6" to 8" ease
Oversized fit: add 8" to 10" ease

These figures are added to almost every measurement. Do not add them to neck depth, wrist measurement and any length (sleeve or waist length). You can adjust these lengths, just not as drastically as you do for circumferences.
